star shafts

One of the most mysterious features of Khufu's Pyramid are the so-called 'air shafts'. Below we will investigate a variation of the Orion Correlation Theory for the purpose of the shafts.

We use Stellarium software and station ourselves at Khufu's Pyramid at Giza. We set the Julian date to November 13, 2553, BC.  We chose the time of day so that the belt star of Orion(see Egyptian Sah god) Alnitak crosses the Meridian in the South. According to OCT, Alnitak relates to Khufu's pyramid. We notice that star Betelgeuse at this instance is also very close to the Meridian. We measure the apparent altitude of star Alnilam and note that it defines the slope of the King Chamber South air shaft as 45°. We then look at the Moon high in the sky. It is 99.7% illuminated so we have a Full Moon.

We then observe the altitude of Regulus the brightest star of the Leo constellation(see Egyptian lion figured Great Sphinx). It is between the slope of the North and South Queen Chamber air shafts, not far from the middle value(that being 39.366°). Turning our attention to the North(Imperishable stars) we note that the brightest star of the pole region Alioth(see Egyptian goddess Taweret) aligns perfectly with the mean North King Chamber air shaft slope. Kochab on the other hand, the second brightest star of the Ursa Minor constellation had an altitude about 0.1° off, the final 'Mankiller' part of the North King Chamber air shaft slope.

We then note that the Sun is below the ground crossing the Meridian so we have chosen the right date of the year so that Alnilam's upper correlation coincides with midnight. We then note that the brightest star of the North part of the sky Arcturus is barely below the horizon and its azimuth is about 0.1° off the mean North King Chamber air shaft slope. We note that the star Upsilon Andromeda A's(which contains 4 planets) geometric altitude matches the latitude of Jerusalem.

In the second from the last photo, we have subtracted 12 hours from the time of day. We now note that the apparent altitude of the pole star of the time Thuban aligns perfectly with the exit slope of the North King Chamber air shaft.

In the second from last screenshot, we show that if at the date we have chosen we station ourselves at Bethlehem we notice that the apparent altitude of the central Orion Belt star Alnilam coincides with the azimuth between Khafre's pyramid apex and Khufu's pyramid apex(or alternatively center base position) as re-calculated by Glen Dash. But at the same time it represents the corner angle of Khafre's pyramid. According to Robert Bauval's Orion Correlation Theory(OCT), Khafre's Pyramid relates to Alnilam.

In the last screenshot, we show that if at the date we have chosen we station ourselves at Nazareth we notice that the apparent altitude of the Orion Belt star Alnitak coincides with the corner angle of Khufu's Pyramid. According to OCT, Khufu's Pyramid relates to Alnitak.

We cannot rule out the possibility that Menkaure was born in the year 2553 BC. If this is the case, then he would have been 18 years old the year 2535 which fits well with the current Egyptiologically accepted date for the commence of his reign.

My analysis has shown that the idea that the four Khufu Pyramid air shafts point to four specific stars at their upper culmination is erroneous. The shafts were designed to point to stars(among other things) at Midnight and Noon at a specific date that coincided with the reign of Khafre. At Midnight of this date, the three bright Orion stars Betelgeuse, Alnitak, and Iota Orionis, as also the Orion Nebula and the star-forming nebula Messier 43 aligned with the Meridian in the South.
